ÜBERBAU EXPLORING BORNHOLM I AT

Ûberbau explored Bornholm for a 4-days exploration with an Austrian group

An Austrian group of 18 architects and interested of all ages was the first foreign group to explore placemaking, green energy and circular economy on a 4-day trip to the Island off Bornholm.

May weather was a perfect setting for the professional visits, walks & talks and reflections in great nature.

Culinary excellency of the island crowned the overall experience.

A great new tradition has started.

We will be back for more !

ROCK ISLAND MAY BECOME THE PLAYGROUND OF THE WORLD

From Energy Islands Newsletter at Energinet.dk

How difficult can it be? To erect a large number of offshore wind turbines off Bornholm and make sure that the current can flow either to Denmark or a neighbouring country?

To many people, this probably sounds like a ‘let’s-get-started task’.

But for university people with deep insights into the technology needed, it is definitely not all that straightforward to construct the Bornholm Energy Island and transmit huge volumes of offshore wind power, via DC connections, to the AC grids in Denmark and a neighbouring country – or both countries concurrently. Currently, Energinet together with it’s German counterpart, 50Hertz, is investigating the possibility of connecting Energy Island Bornholm with Germany and it’s power system.

And if it is also factored in that the very powerful DC connections must be connected to the relatively modest AC grid on Bornholm, so that green electricity from the offshore wind turbines can also benefit the local population and so that green electricity generated on Bornholm can be transmitted to other countries, this is, in fact, not a ‘let’s-get-started task’ at all. It is more like a ‘we-must-start-research-and-development-as-soon-as-possible task’.

In fact, no one has yet gone down this electrical path.

Claus M. Andersen in TV2Bornholms TV broadcast 360 live

By Bornholms Energi & Forsyning

The CEO of Bornholm Energi & Forsyning has been in TV2Bornholm’s TV broadcast 360 live. It is not special in itself. But … the broadcast is a good place to start if you – as it happens – heard the news with half an ear when Bornholm and Energiøen got their five minutes og fame, their turn in the national media.

In good company, Bornholms Energi & Forsyning’s director Claus M. Andersen started the discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of EnergiøBornholm. What can we get out of it? And what can we not?

The good company consisted of Mayor Jacob Trøst (C), Minister of the Environment Lea Wermelin (S), Peter Haag from græsroden Bornholm’s environment and energy association and Professor Jacob Østergaard from DtU.

Energy Island Bornholm will be the crossroad of the Baltics for intelligent green energy

By Jeppe La Cour

Three years ago – no one could have dreamt about it.

But we are there now.

I am thrilled about the news that Energinet – the independent public enterprise owned by the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Utilities – announced that Bornholm most likely will be connected to Energi Island’s offshore wind farms.

It was not given that the power produced from the turbines would connect to the Island. But with the conclusion from Energinet that it will be profitable, the work by the municipality and BEOF (Bornholms Energi of Forsyning) seems to pay off.

Why is it a big thing?

It will secure many workplaces for locals, and the endless possibilities can attract exceptional talents this brings.

The connection is the basis for Power-to-X production, Bornholm Bunker Hub, Datacenters, residential colleges, more sustainable heating, etc.

Bornholm is heading for a greener future.
